Microdermabrasion in Richmond is a relatively new and exciting facial treatment that’s performed by a licensed and experienced skincare specialist. This rejuvenating skincare procedure involves exfoliating and removing the top layer of the skin on your face. In so doing, microdermabrasion results in smoother and brighter skin while also helping with scars, acne, and other skin issues. One of the best parts about microdermabrasion is that it doesn’t require a ton of prep work on your end. There are, however, a few things you can do leading up to your appointment to ensure a smooth, painless, and beneficial experience.

Stop Taking Aspirin and Aspirin-Based Medications
If you’re currently taking aspirin or an aspirin-based medication, you should stop taking it in the days leading up to your appointment. Aspirin is a blood thinner, and while microdermabrasion doesn’t cause bleeding, dermabrasion may.
Stay Out of the Sun
You shouldn’t have a microdermabrasion procedure if you’re sunburnt. Therefore, stay out of the sun for up to a week leading up to your appointment.
Avoid Waxing
Microdermabrasion is a generally painless procedure. However, waxing and shaving can open up your pores, making microdermabrasion quite painful. You should avoid shaving and waxing for at least one week before your appointment.
Hold Off on Exfoliation
As with shaving and waxing, exfoliating your skin can open up the pores and turn microdermabrasion into an uncomfortable procedure. In addition to holding off on exfoliation, you should also avoid using Retin-A and glycolic acid prior to microdermabrasion.
Don’t Use Topical Treatments
At Rejuvenation Skin Lab, we’ve found that the best microdermabrasion results happen on a clean slate. Therefore, we ask that you avoid using topical treatments, including makeup and facial creams, on your face on the morning of your appointment.
No Smoking!
You should also avoid smoking and using tobacco products for at least one week leading up to your Richmond microdermabrasion appointment. Smoking can slow blood flow to the face, which can negate many of the benefits of microdermabrasion.
Avoid Other Skin Procedures
Lastly, it’s best to avoid other skincare procedures, such as chemical peels, for at least a week before your appointment. Similarly to waxing and exfoliation, certain procedures can irritate the skin and open pores.
